RAIN RESCUE

August

What has happened since we last wrote?

Branston - our lovely older Gentleman has finally had his snip.  He has been so poorly since he got bronchitis in the pound - that he wasn't fit enough for it before.  Now he is.  He was very groggy - but loved and cared for by his foster mum - he will recover.  He is such a character - everyone around Crookes just knows him and identifies with him.  HUGE thanks to Anna and Cax for taking him for walks and making it easier for his foster mum to look after him. she loves him to pieces and doesn't really want to rehome him - if only he would slow down a little.

Gentle Bill - his caring foster parents have sent in a new write up for him.  They have made his home life much more settled and secure for a dog that's almost blind.  How on earth we found them and they found Bill - must have been fate.  Hopefully we will get some more pictures of him soon - to show how he has come on - but thankfully - they aren't in too much of a rush to rehome him, as we haven't had any interest in him.  Don't you know anyone that just wants a nice friendly dog to share their lap with?

Ricky was castrated , paid for by Rain Rescue - before he was adopted - and now he is settled in a lovely new and just the right home for him.  His family are hoping to organise a sponsored dog walk to raise funds for Rain Rescue as they have seen the work that we do - and realise just how much money it takes to do it all.

Della was spayed before she was adopted.  Her foster mum Geerarffe has done some fabulous work with her - taking her from being a very unhomeable giddy and energetic dog - which had very little hope of finding the right home whilst sitting in the dog pound.  After training, rules and guidelines - Della met and made friends with other dogs, lived with the cats - and became an all round great dog - once she understood the ground rules.  A family came looking for a dog with some energy - Della fitted the bill - and went to her new home last week.

Meg - had to be rehomed by a family that used Sheffield Forum - and Geerarffe helped and took her in.  Our Handsworth foster mum and dad are much more suited to these little ish dogs - and so - they took her on and into their home.  She settled in really well and we got some good photographs of her.  Her new mum and dad saw her, and she was adopted out once we worked out that she had found that special home that would love her forever.

Lola had to be rehomed as her original family were moving home and couldn't take her with her.  Again Geerarffe stepped in and helped them out when in a crisis situation.  Again, our Handsworth foster family now had room - and Lola moved in.  Once we had her sorted out - and understood her little temperament - we had people looking for her - and we found just the right home and family who would take her on board.  Lola will be spayed once the vets say its ok for her to be done so.  She will never need to be looking for a new home again.

Another family from Sheffield Forum were in a crisis situation - they were having to rehome 2 of their dogs due to family circumstances.  Sadly -one had to be handed into the RSPCA at Doncaster and the other to the Sheffield Pound. Now we had a foster home free - we could take in Mr. Kipling - who had 1 eye missing and looked very shaggy and long haired indeed.  We took him to the groomers and had him cleaned up - and we took him to the vets.  He needed an emergency operation for a painful operation -which we have paid for.  He is now recovering, and isn't in pain anymore.  A few families were interested in him, and we found just the right family.  Once they come back off their holiday - hopefully Mr. Kipling will be settled in a new home.

One of our other foster Mum's saw the sad tale of the 8 yr old staffy bitch in the pound who had a huge lump on her leg which was obviously causing her some grief. So she came and picked up Dolly - and took her to the vets - she needs to have the cyst removed - and most of her back teeth taken out as they are so painful and black - they are falling out into her tea.  She never even grumbles - just imagine if your own teeth were so bad - and to think what reputations staffy's get - who on earth would put up with that?  Anyway - she will be free from pain and discomfort by the beginning of next week - and will be looking for that right home to snuggle up onto someone's settee.

Jordan - now called Jodie - is only about 1 year old.  Already someone has decided that she should have a litter of puppies from her young body.  Another litter of staffy's to hit the streets and no doubt be unwanted in a year's time or so.  She was in the pound - scared and unwanted -so we took her into our care.  She is an adorable and lovely young staffy girl that will soon be spayed and we will find her a nice home that will keep her forever hopefully.

Tabby - the very very scared little whippet staffy - who won't take a proper photograph. This girl was so thin and scared in the pound - and yet - Auntie Kay saw her and knew she would be fine to find a new family and so we took her under our wing.   She is very under-weight.  No doubt never been wormed or fed properly.  Now she has.  She is snuggled up - ok its in a kennel - on a lovely fluffy rug that's nice and thick and she has a lovely chew to keep her company.  Today a lovely volunteer has been and taken her out for a walk into Clumber Park - where she has mixed with everyone she has met. To think - she was unwanted and thrown away.

Dink - photographed on our site - she looked huge.  She was in the pound for at least 3 weeks that we know of - nobody wanted her.  Our foster mum went in to get her, cos she thought she looked nice, and came out with a dog - which was so small - she walked past her cos she expected something bigger.  Dink went straight home and met another female and another male dog, and a few kittens - and just fell into the routine.  She is adorable.
