Pre Adoption Questionnaire
Adoption Process
Thank you for contacting Rain Rescue regarding the adoption of a dog.
‘The majority of our dogs have been collected from dog pounds, and its very rare that we will have any history about them. During their time with us, they are assessed and walked by us to find out as much as we can about their characters. However, no kennel environment is the same as a home – and so the dogs may display different characteristics in the home that we haven’t seen.
We try to match your lifestyle and the people at home – with a dog we have here in kennels because we have found that by carefully matching your energy with the dog’s energy – will result in a more successful re-homing. We do not just give you any dog – if we do not feel it’s the best match.
When we feature dogs on our website, we may get many enquiries – or hardly any enquiries but we will assess each request in order that it has been received and on suitability. Should we all feel this is a possibility of re-homing – you can come and view the dog either at kennels or in foster at a suitably convenient time. However, other people may also be at this stage, and so we will re-home to the most suitable owner that comes along first.
If both you and us feel that we have a dog suitable for you to adopt, you can adopt the dog. We will amend the microchip details over to you and you become fully responsible for the dog from that time for all vet fees and responsible dog ownership. Any donation that you make towards us is for the upkeep and ongoing of the rescue – its not a sale price for the dog.
Donations can be made via our website, via cheque or by cash as we are a registered charity, this money goes into the charity account and is audited
If you adopt a dog that has not been neutered or micro-chipped this must be done within 1 month of the dog arriving in your home as long as your vet feels this is safe to do so in the case of a female coming into season. And copies of the documents must be sent to us for proof of completion. Under no circumstances can any dog that you adopt be used for breeding.
Please give your dog time to settle in – do not put it under any unnecessary stress or pressure until it gets to know you and your family. Have clear rules within the family and give the dog clear commands – don’t expect it to pick up 1 word in a sentence – help it to learn with you.
We’ve also created an adoption info “poster” that features a few things to consider when looking for a new dog, you can download it here.
We look forward to receiving your completed form.
Kind regards Rain Rescue
