Lonely This Christmas

December 4, 2019

Amongst the 213 cats coming into Rain Rescue’s care so far this year, Wendy’s story is sadly a common one - the story of abandonment. Found pregnant living in a feral colony she had likely been waiting for someone to love her all her life.

When she came to Rain Rescue as well as being heavily pregnant her mouth was clearly causing her excruciating pain. Without owners to care for her Wendy's teeth had become rotten, and we found out in time she would need every single tooth removing.

Safe at Rain Rescue we knew her life would be different, her struggle for survival was over and her destiny to face pregnancy after pregnancy as an unneutered cat living on the streets was changing.

No longer would she have continual litters of unwanted kittens who in turn would go on to repeat the cycle, each facing crisis as the population spirals and disease flourishes.

Wendy sadly lost 3 of her kittens at birth, but she nursed the 2 surviving; Fenella and Rosie lovingly. Once they were old enough they quickly found loving homes, leaving Wendy behind and overlooked again.

This sweet girl is now being cared for by a wonderful fosterer, free from pain but still patiently waiting to know what it feels like to be cherished by a family of her own...

...maybe just maybe this Christmas she will find out.
