All too often in rescue we don’t have the full picture so find ourselves with more questions than answers as we look at the beautiful, often neglected, soul in front of us. Where have they come from? What have they been through? How did this happen? Why, oh, why have they been thrown away?
This is what happened when we met Tramp back in August. He was found with another senior lurcher; Lady, tied to a lamp post and abandoned.
No food, no shelter, no hope
No dog should be without a home, but it’s particularly heartbreaking for senior dogs to be spending precious time in kennels.
Tramp’s eyes had a sadness to them, as though he was trying to tell us how this happened but just couldn’t find the words. Thankfully he didn’t need to speak for Rain Rescue to answer, his eyes said it all, so Lady and Tramp came into our care - they were safe now.
In time we learnt this pair would be happiest on their own so made the considered and correct decision to separate them. Lady went to our Pawsome Partner rescue Battersea where she quickly found a happy home, and Tramp stayed with us where we continued to cherish him whilst searching for his.
Then, 92 sleeps, 184 meals and an unquantifiable amount of love later, it happened...Tramp got adopted! No longer an abandoned dog facing his retirement years alone, his Christmas wish came true and he now has a family to call his own.
During his time with us Tramp received essential dental work to help ease his pain, food, shelter, warmth and care from our team so he could learn to trust again.
This winter Rain Rescue will care for about one hundred animals like Tramp who find themselves without anyone to care for them, and receive even more pleas for support. Your donation will mean we can say yes to helping another animal in crisis, so they don't have to know what it means to be lonely this Christmas.
